After installing Win XP Home, I created two user
accounts. One was named Richard and the other the guest
account. For some reason, after booting, the computer
immediately logs in with an different account name
like "dickcolone1". How is that occuring? How do I stop
that from happening?

Hi,

QUESTION:

After installing Win XP Home, I created two user accounts. One was named
Richard and the other the guest account. For some reason, after booting,
the computer immediately logs in with an different account name like
"dickcolone1". How is that occuring? How do I stop that from happening?

SOLUTION:

Have you tried starting the system in Safe Mode ?

To start the computer in safe mode
==============================
1. You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be
available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
2. Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click
Shut down.
3. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
4. When you see the message Please select the operating system to start,
press F8.
5. Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and
then press ENTER.
6. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation
that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.
7. Logon on as Administrator
8. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.
9. Select and delete the user account "dickcolone1"
10. Click OK and follow the next step.

Disable Auto Logon to Windows XP
===============================
You can configure this STEP if your system is not a part of the domain.

1. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.
2. Select the "Users must enter a username and password to use this
computer" check box.
3. Click Apply.
4. Click OK and you're all done.

Hope this helps ...... :)

I did control userpasswords2, and it didn't display one
of the accounts. So then I tried adding that same
account, that wasn't there. It said "The user account
cannot be added because it is already created." What do I
do?

Hi,

Right mouse click My Computer and select Manage.
Under Computer Management, expand Local Users and Groups and select Users
folder.
See if the user account exists

Hope this helps ...... :)
