Use Word Template from Intranet Site

I created a fillin Word template for use from our internal Intranet but it
doesn't open properly. Instead of opening a document copy with the first
fillin field selected and ready for input, it opens the .dot template with
the cursor blinking at the beginning of the form. The template is protected
and the intranet file is read-only. How can I make it work properly from the
Intranet? Or is it not possible?

If the intranet documents are accessed via hyperlinks then this method may help.
