Use of functions in queries in Access 2002

I just converted my databases to Access 2002. Anywhere I
created a new field using a function results in an error.
For example, if there was a query column that had "Cost:
Format([Unit Price]*[Quantity], #.##)"
or "FormattedName: Trim([LastName])", I get the error
message: "Enter parameter value" for Format or Trim.

Any ideas about how to correctly use functions in queries
in Access 2002? Thanks.
