use of external video projector

I have a problem with my power point presentation. I attached the projector
to my computer and turned on the powerpoint presentation. After entering
Fn/F8 the screen begins to jump and the computer locks up. I spent over 9
hours with Dell Support with no results. Now if I hit Fn/F8 the computer
locks and I must reboot. I uninstalled Powerpoint and Reinstalled but with no
change in the problem. Any suggestions?

What does Power Point have to do with the issue? It sounds like you may
have a graphic adapter hardware problem.

I was told by Dell support after 9 hours of diagnostics that there was no
hardware problem and to Reload Powerpoint and then to reinstall windows!

Maybe see if there is an updated driver for you integrated graphics
adapter. Also, try to (if there is any) uninstall and re-install the
software for the projector. This probably won't have any effect, but
sometimes the wierdes things fix the problem. I agree with Bob
though, there is no problem with Power Point (or at least none that
will have this effect on your machine) It is probably a hardware
issue, but could be resolved with a driver re-install or a piece of
software being re-installed if it accesses the multi screen options.
I would start with getting new or updated drivers for your video card,
or just getting the same drivers you currently have and re-install
them.

You should be able to toggle the BIOS screen to the projector, at will,
using the FN/F8 key. Does that work?

Bob's right. Toggling between your screens is not any feature of any
application. You should be able to, even without an application open,
switch between monitors. If this does not work, try to update your
BIOS. I know that you went through Dell support, but, quite honestly,
they aren't always right. They want to save as much money as they can
by saying it is not their problem so they don't have to replace any
parts. Because this is a feature in the BIOS of your laptop, updating
the BIOS (or just re-installing the BIOS if you have an updated
version) might fix your issues. Don't re-install Windows yet, as it
is more than likely not the way to go. Hell, go to Dell's website and
find every driver for your laptop and re-install every single
available driver. This will take WAY less time than re-installing
Windows and it will probably fix your problem. Please post back with
progress.
