Is there any way to use both DSL and Cable simultaneously? I guess
this could be done on networked systems by allocating a separate
machine to Cable, then networking that machine to the main net.
But it would be nice to have something more integrated. What would be
involved?

Yes, it is possible to use both DSL and Cable simultaneously. You can also
use dial-up and satellite .. heck do some sneaker-net while you are at it
enjoying your multi-homed wonder of wire and wireless - you might even
connect a couple machines with a cross-over cable.

Sneakernet and crossover cable, eh? I do have routers and gigabit
switches that serve the purpose there.

The question was whether DSL + Cable could be integrated gracefully,
and the answer I've heard from techs is No. It appears that the
(expensive) routers that look like they can connect to two Wan ports
are really just allowing the selection of one or the other.

If anyone has any other info, I'd love to hear about it.
