Hi!

I got an elitegroup K7S5A which *does* have USB2 ports. However,
everytime I connect an USB2 device Windows tells me that I plugged a
high-speed device in a non-high speed HUB.

What's wrong here?

Usually,
BIOS settings and/or USB drivers not loaded for USB 2
Some motherboards also have chipset drivers to be loaded.

Latest USB drivers installed?

My older K7S5A does not have USB 2.0, are you *sure* its the 2.0 version
motherboard?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but how can a 3-year-old board have USB2 ports?!
That board was released in the middle of 2001 - USB2 didn't become a
standard until two years later.

Is this - or is this not - your motherboard
(http://www.sysopt.com/reviews/ecs-k7s5a/)? I wasn't aware there was any
other version with USB2 ports - why on earth would a company revamp a
three-year-old board?! It would be commercial suicide.

You cannot turn USB1 ports into USB2.

Which USB 2.0 board do you recommend for an upgrade.

You can get plug in PCI cards to provide USB 2.0 ports, rather than
replace the motherboard. I picked up one with two ports at the back,
and connection to a plate with three more that fits in a spare floppy
drive bay in the front. Maybe $30 or so?

I found a five port 2.0 PCI to USB card at Radio Shack on sale for 24.95. It
works great. THANKS for the info. Radio Shack must be getting rid of it
Compaq stock, all the hardware with the Compaq name on it was an avg. of 20%
off and that is what the USB card was. The other USP card they stock is from
Belkin and was 39.95.
