i have tried to install winxp on my laptop with an
external cdrom via usb port but cannot boot from cd..even
after cmos setting to boot from cdrom and legacy usb
enabled..same result using memory stick with bootable
files...floppy and internal cdrom not available..
any suggestions?
 
Your motherboard must support booting from an external (underscore EXTERNAL)
device... not just booting from a CD Rom drive.

If it does not, there isn't much you can do!

Buy an internal CDROM. Most have it, otherwise still with existing OS
and buy a new laptop with XP when you can afford it.
