USB Trackerball - Help Me, my head hurts

I am using a Wafer585-300 SBC (Singleboard Computer) and need to get an
tackerball working (Manu: Penny + Giles). When I plug this tracker ball into
WinXP Pro I get two items deteted in device manager, Under "Human Interface
Devices" I get an "USB Human Interface Device" and under "Mice and other
pointing devices" I get a "HID-compliant mouse".

I have tried adding the above to my XPe build manually and I've also tried
using the Generic USB Input Device Support.

What I have noticed on my last attempt at this, after FBA PNP has done the
tackerball works! Yea I thought, until FBA completes and the Trackerball is
lost and I have an error in device manager next to "USB Human Interface
Device" and no" HID-compliant mouse".

Sean Liming has suggested the following to me, this is before I knew the
trackerball worked in FBA mode.....(after PnP portion)

Check to see if your missing the registry entries
for the HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Class and
HKLM\System\ControlSet001\deviceclasses linkages. I would
compare XP Pro installation vs. XPe registry entries.

To be honest I don't know what I'm comparing! Thus I'm a little confused to
say the least. I have tried using REGMon but there are so many read/writes
to the registry it's hard to know what to keep and what to throw away.....

Please can any one suggest what may be happing I don't know whyit works in
FBA and not afterwords, thus it must have what it needs to function......

I hope all that makes sense and thanks for any help in advance.

Wayne.

Update:

When I remove "USB Human Interface Device" and then I preform a "Scan for
hardware changes", when XPe is done detecting the tackerball works I have
done this now 3 times on the run, when I restart gone do the above back and
working.....

It seems as if it's lossing the tracker ball on a reboot, any ideas....

Thanks in Advance

Wayne

OK, so you've got the trackerball plugged in while you go
through FBA, and you ran TAP on a system that had in
plugged in?
Have you tried using InCtrl5 (available from xpefiles.com)
to track the install?

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I didn't have a PMQ file with the
device plugged in I did that yesterday, still the same
problem. The trackerball doesn't have any drivers with it.
When I plug it into a XP Pro system it all gets detected
and all is well.

I think something is missing in my build, for example an
inf or and PnP ID which is why the problem is happing.

Thanks again, Wayne.
