USB Readyboost Ethernet weirdness

I recently installed a USB stick (Guaranteed to work with Vista for
readyboost) on my system. I'm using Vista Home Premium x64.

Since then I have experienced Internet shutdowns (sometimes in the middle of
browsing newsgroups). These shutdowns happen after some random time of using
the internet up to an hour. The internet is restored after a computer
shutdown and restart.
I connect to the internet via an Ethernet connection from a set-top box
(cable provider).

If I remove the USB stick, there is no problem. No internet shutdowns. As
you can imagine, I have now disconnected the USB stick from my system.

I can find no reference to anything like this on the web. Have you come
across anything similar? Any ideas as to why this might be? Is it just a
peculiarity of my particular setup?

Thanks for the reply.

I have now reinstalled Vista from an Acronis backup. I have also replaced my
old router (which had failed before I posted this message and might have
precipitated the problem.). Now everything is working perfectly again,
including the readyboost USB stick.

Just one of those things, I guess.
