Have XP Pro and a new 300GB External USB HD. Critical data, and so I'd like
to mirror it to another external USB HD. Is this even possible?

If XP recognizes the two USB drives, can I select 'Create Mirror' in Disk
Management? (If I have to erase the HD I'm using now to set this up, thats
fine with me.)

Not sure if can be done. Anyone know?

Thanks

Your new external USB HDD will probably have free 'backup/mirror' software
either with the disc that may have been supplied with it or downloadable
from the manufacturers website. (I hope you have USB2 or it will take
forever!!)

Yes, it is USB2.0.

But the original question has not been answered. Can XP Pro do mirroring of
external drives?

YES. I have seen this. I do not want to create a mirrored Vol. on a Windows
2000 server machine. I need to do this on a XP Pro machine, where the USB
drives are physically attached to the XP Pro machine

Software mirroring often receives bad press, and I'm fairly certain you
could'nt use hw raid via usb, without using a specific Disk Enclosure
device.
A mirror is not an alternative to a backup

No, XP does not support Raid 1 or 5.

Windows Explorer = copy x: y:

Your response was Windows Explorer = copy x: y: Is that what you
meant....the Windows Explorer part is throwing me. Or do you mean go to
explorer and copy from one drive to the other? Here's what I am dealing
with....I have a hard drive that is degrading. I have a backup. I'm trying
to minimize the migration issues by installing the new drive and "mirroring"
to the new dirve solely to make it easy on me. I figure once the new drive
is a mirror I swap it out and I'm done. Should I rethink this?
