USB Problem

I have two USB ports. I use one for the mouse, another one for a scanner. I
would like to use a third outlet for a new printer. I therefore bought a
4-USB hub.

The problem occurs when I try to do a restore from a DriveImage image:
Instead of recognizing the printer, Windows XP shows a dialog: New USB
device found.

As it turned out, Windows referred, not to my printer, but to the hub. It
tried to install the hub and did not see the printer behind the hub.

Is this a common problem? How can I get around it?

The best bet is to buy a USB 2.0 card, perhaps with Firewire
also, this will add many more individual ports.

USB hubs can be problematic, they work well for some types
of devices and not well at all with others.

Thank you, you're welcome.

You can even get kits that will let you put the extra ports
in a front panel using either a 3-1/2 or 5-1/4 inch drive
bay. I've seen these advertised at www.cyberguys.com and
www.tigerdirect.com I'm sure you can find other sources.

| Thank you, Jim
