USB problem

After a re-install of windowsxp pro I notice that the icon to safely
remove a usb stick does not appear in the task manager. Any idea how to
get it back to show in the tray?

Also any usb stick plugged in a usb port gives an error message saying
that the drive isn't formatted? Is the usb stick getting corrupted or is
this a common problem in winxp pro?

grateful for anay information.

Thanks

Dave

Since you re-installed your XP, did you also reinstall all your
"other" hardware drivers like motherboard chipset drivers. XP does
not always have all the chipset drivers, especially if the motherbaord/
chipset came out after the "original" XP release.

Thanks smlunatick.
I had already reinstalled other hardware drivers. However I did find the
solution on the web. Did the following:

1. From the run command, ran "services.msc"
2. Searched and double clicked the 'SSDP Discovery Service' service
3. Then 'Disabled' it in the Startup type box.
4. Restarted Windows.

And hey, presto, everything is back to normal.
thanks for your advise though. Much appreciated.

Regards

Dave
