USB Nightmares.

No matter what I do, I can't get my USB touch screen to work in Windows XP
embedded; I tried everything, for example,

The touch screen works fine if I use a full version of Windows XP
professional on the exact same computer where I also load Windows XP
embedded. This tells me that this is not a hardware problem.

I was able to make a regular (Logitech) USB mouse to work with my embedded
OS image, so I assuming that all the pipe work (drivers, system files etc)
is installed.

I notice that the "Device Manager" shows the USB entry when I plug my Touch
Screen in, the entry is listed as "Touchkit USB Controller". This tells me
that the Embedded OS is acknowledging the Touch Screen.

Another thing that I did was to go to the "Device Manager" utility and made
sure that all of the files listed under the "Driver" section of the
"Touchkit USB Controller" and "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" devices
were the exact same as the ones found on a full version of Windows XP.

Lastly, I installed the drivers that came with the monitor directly into the
Windows XP embedded but that didn't do anything either.

Could anyone offer some help!! I don't know what else to do???

Thank you.

Rene,

Have you added the following macro component?

- Software>>System Services >>Generic USB Input Device
Support

Good luck, Let me know how you get on.

Just checking, do you have all your dependencies resolved?
I'm about to do a new version of the Vampire testing build
(which should contain just about every standard component
going) which might be useful for debugging.
You might also want to look at tracking the install of the
driver with inctrl 5 (available on XPEfiles.com) to check
that all the changes the driver makes under XP Pro are
actually being done when you install under XPe.

Are there any errors related to the driver or USB in the fbalog in the
runtime at .\windows\fba\fbalog.txt?

Also, can we see your component and INF? Please zip them up and attach them
to the thread, maybe there will be something obvious in there. Also, as
Wayne mentioned, try a test by adding the "Generic USB Input Device Support"
component to the configuration as well.

I'm not familiar with "Touchkit", though I have successfully componentized &
used ELO and 3M's USB touch screens.

Thanks.
Andy

Sorry for the late response!!

It appears that we had a little problem with our prototype computer and
smoke came out of it. We are working on putting the smoke back into the unit
to see if it works again :)

Should be up and running the middle of this week. I will be able to
experiment then and post my finding (assuming you are still reading this)

Thank you.

Tricky stuff, that magic smoke. I had the smoke escape from an old AT
PSU I was using on my unit after it's own prototype PSU proved rather
hazardous. I was working late, as we were in a mad rush, and my boss
came over to help. He turned it on and *poof*, magic smoke everywhere,
CF dead, and the power cable to it turned into an interesting stain on
my desk. I'd been using that PSU for weeks. He's not tried to help
since.
