USB Intel Driver Install - Access Denied

I have just put a new mobo in a machine for a customer after old one was
fried by a faulty PSU. The new mobo would not accept the OS on the old hard
drive so I did a Repair of XP using the system disk. All OK except that I
cannot get the OS to install the drivers for the USB controller on the new
mobo. It goes through the motions and then I get ' Cannot Install This
Hardware' plus 'Access Denied'. Any help would be much appreciated before I
have a nervous breakdown! Many thanks guys! Peter in The UK

Do you have Service Pack 2 installed? If not, install it and then see
what happens with the usb drivers.

No, I wouldn't reinstall SP2. I don't think that would help. My next
step would be to do a clean install of Windows. It will be quicker and
easier than trying to figure out what bit of the old installation is
causing the issue with the USB drivers.

What you should maybe try to check driver signing and also try another user
account or create another user account and try that

Reinstalling is is just not worth it takes to long

We disagree on that. As a professional tech, it takes me approx. 1-1/2
hrs. to do a clean install of Windows, including installing drivers,
Windows Updates, basic programs. The OP is not working with his own
machine; he is working with a client's machine where he had to replace
the motherboard. I stand behind what I said - it will be quicker and
cleaner for the tech to reinstall Windows. Naturally, it will be his
choice depending on what he needs to do for the client.
