USB HD enclosure...

Got the HD enclosure, installed it, worked fine for about 10 minutes,
then gives me a "delayed write error" message and went dead. The HD is
recognizable under Devices as a USB external HD...just won't assign a
drive #. Running XP w/ SP2, HD jumpers set as master. Any help?

Have a look on Google for this very popular, but it seems almost
irresolvable problem.

You could try a powered USB hub is about the best hope I can give you.

One thing you can check:

Get a better cable. I had one cheap USB 2.0 cable that consistently
gave me similar errors with Linux. Replacing the cable with something
solved the problem. May or may not help.

Depending on the drive you're using, in addition to Master & Slave
there may be a 3rd jumper setting called "Single Drive" or whatever
(for when it's the ONLY drive connected to a specific IDE controller).

I've seen certain drives that required this jumper setting in order to
work correctly with a USB enclosure.

Also, probably a good idea to disable Cable Select (CS) jumper if
enabled.

good luck,
