USB Harddisk Problem

O

Ole Weigelt

Hi everybody,

(this problem is not related to the problem described in the thread, I have
started a few minutes ago. This occurs on systems that do not have the other
problem)

I have a backup server that should use a USB harddisk to make a secondary
copy of a bkf-file. The portable device uses a Genesys GL811E chipset to
access a 2,5" HD. The BKF-file has a size of about 50GB.

During the copy process (XCOPY), the following occurs:

1. Windows states that the device has been removed unauthorized
2. Event #50 is written to the System log: "Loss of data while writing from
buffer to \Device\HaddiskVolume3. The writing process failed. Probably not
all data was written" (the original text is in German:"{Datenverlust bei
geschrieben.")
3. System load goes to 100%, mouse only partly available, strong HD
activity.
4. after approx. 1 hr, system stalls.

This error is reproducable on several systems.

Does anybody have an idea, what happened?

Thank you for your time

Why use xcopy. What is the matter with the drag and drop in explorer or CRTL C,
CRTL V and let windows take care of the copy. I have copied MS backups and
Acronis files like that for years,

It is a batch file from the scheduler.
