USB Hard Disk

I have a philips 250GB usb hard drive and while doing a system backup the
message 'timed out' appeared. Since then my computer does not recognise the
external drive. I tried the drive on another computer and it is fine. Any
ideas?
 
Did you also get the "Delayed Write Failed" message - I have seen several posts elsewhere about this, particularly when running intensive disk activity such as backups.
