I've been sorting through the posts and I see this has been asked but
no one yet has posted the answer .. hopefully some can now .. USB
flash drive .. plug it in .. it's recognised by windows then I get an
error message from the unplug or eject hardware aplet that it's been
removed unsafely .. I see there are a lot of people having problems
with windows 2000 and flash drives
any help

Can you try a different card adapter, in particular not a SanDisk one?
Not all SanDisk adapters have all the electronic bits inside for full
functionality (e.g. I could not run a data recovery program on a
corrupted card whereas a no-name reader worked perfectly).
