USB Flash Drive; transferred files incomplete?

I have an 8GB USB flash drive that, in most instances, functions without
issues. However, whenever I try to copy a existing video file to it the
result will not play. I get a "C00D1199: Cannot play the file" error
message. The video file plays without issue from it's source but that error
message results if I play the file from the flash drive. It's as if the file
did not copy or paste completely. I've tried variations. Copy To... Move
To... Ctrl/C to Ctrl/V... The only instance that it did work was when I
copied the file from a CD. But, burning to CD before transferring to a flash
drive obviously defeats the purpose.

My pc is running an NTFS file system and the flash drive is FAT32 and I
wondered if this was the root of the problem. However, I have other, smaller
capacity flash drives that are FAT and which work fine. So, is FAT alright
but not FAT32? Should I re-format the flash drive to NTFS? Or is it a
question of capacity incompatibility? A 1GB FAT flash drive works fine; an
8GB FAT32 doesn't...

What's the cause? Is there a cure?

C00D1199: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error
message for one of the following reasons:
The file type is not supported by the Player. For a list of file types
(formats) that are supported by Windows Media Player, see Supported file
types.
The file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by
using a codec that is not supported by the Player.
The file type is supported, but you are trying to play it in a way that is
not supported by the Player. For example, you might have tried to drag a DVD
file with a .vob extension from a DVD to the Windows Media Player icon. Or
you might have tried to open a .vob file by clicking Open on the File menu.
You are trying to play one part of a multipart file. Use a newsreader or
other program to combine the files, and then try again.

I've already been through all of that. The issue is that an AVI file, on my
hard drive, plays without problems on WMP. If I burn that file to CD, it
plays without problems. If I copy it to a Flash Drive, it doesn't work. Same
pc, same file; differant results...

Use WMP and Sync it to the flash drive. Do not copy it for the format
will be changed.

Tried that, too. Still doesn't work.

The question is simple. Why should an AVI copied to a 1GB FAT drive work
fine but the same file copied to an 8GB FAT32 drive doesn't work?

Hello,

I think file was not copied correctly.
Use the DOS command called comp (COMP.EXE) to compare the original
file with the copy in the USB flash drive.

I hope this can help.

Eric.
