Can and would it be advisable to back up system and text files with a
USB Flash Card?

USB Flash Cards are generally used for backing up data
and program files, not "system files". A Flash Card does not have
the capacity for system file backups.

You could back up data files, though I would not myself do it on
something so easily erased. But backing up the system is a big job -
short of the newly announced 1 GB USB flash, I doubt if it would fit,
and a second hard drive at half or a quarter of the price would be
better. A USB connected hard drive would come out cheaper and give more
capacity.

There is also the problem with system files of needing a method of
restoring - there are programs that will work with USB connected
devices, but you need to be sure.
