USB Driver

My new hard drive has been working good for two days. Today I loaded sound
drivers and USB 2.0 drivers from the VIA Motherboard page. The computer
started locking up periodically, sometimes every three minutes or maybe an
hour. I deleted the sound drivers. Anyone have any experience with USB
drivers causing a hard lock-up of the computer?
 
The usb drivers for xp are included in SP1 and SP2,once its installed,then
one only needs to open device mgr,scroll down to the usb controller,R.click
