USB devices and new Motherboard & Processor

Dan

Hi-
I just recently had to have my motherboard and P4
processor replaced. When I plugged in my USB scanner and
USB card reader, I stared having problems. I finally had
to remove my USB scanner in device manager, reinstall the
software and now it is listed as scanner #2. My card
reader now stops my system from booting up. I get press
F1 to reboot and F2 for setup. When I remove my USB card
reader from its port then my system will boot correctly.
What is happening here? Also, is there a way to have my
card reader plugged in at all times, computer on and off?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, did you do a clean install of WinXP after the Motherboard change? If
not, you are having problems because XP is
looking for the old devices from the other MB.

I have one computer that absolutely won't boot if a USB device is attached.
My theory is that it's trying to boot from the USB device, but it can't so
it chokes. I've learned to live with it. When I reboot, I just unplug the
USB devices. Of course, I don't reboot that machine often, so it't not an
issue.

Depending on when the computer freezes, a reinstall of XP might fix things,
but if it's not getting through the bios, it's a motherboard issue.
