USB 2.0 vs firewire

Still putzing around deciding about new comp and an MP3 player with
HD. In the real world of transferring MP3s from the comp to an
external device like the MP3 player, is there a significant difference
in speed between USB 2.0 and Firewire? I've asked some local "experts"
and gotten conflicting information. Now I pose it to the real experts.

In the "real" world there is little actual difference between them in speed.
USB 2.0 is possibly 10% faster.

I would go with USB 2.0 only because it is more commonplace than Firewire.
There is no significant benefit of using USB over firewire. Firewire is
actually faster and more desirable for video, but MP3's are a little bit
different. Some people will tell you that USB is faster than Firewire, But
Firewire in that case is one device to one device. USB is often used for
printers, mouse, keyboard and other devices. This slows it down a bit. By
Architecture the more devices you have the slower USB 2.0 will be due to the
the overhead.

For your pupose, either would be fine, similar enough. I'd focus more
on other features and price.

Again, thanks to all for the advice. Seems like six of one or a half
dozen of the other, and more beneficial to concentrate on other areas
of the equipment.
