USB 2.0 problem

F

Freeck

I installed a 4 port USB2.0 PCI-card on my MSI6380LE MB (6 on board USB1.1
ports). All drivers have been upgraded (WinXP-SP1). After restarting my PC
the card is recognized, but after attaching a USB2.0 hard disk the OS says
something like "fast USB device connected on slow USB port".
Also after disabling the onboard USB-ports st5ill the same problem.....

Any suggestions how to resolve this problem?

Please DO NOT post individually to different groups. Cross post to the 2-3
groups that you believe will give you the best responses.

Then, anyone who answers, from any of the groups you posted to, will also be
able to see the responses from those who posted to your request in a
different group. It avoids duplication of answers, and allows you to see
"all" the answers in any of the 2-3 locations!

What you did will surely get you less responses. The majority of people who
help out here frown upon the practice!

There should be a USB driver disc with the PCI card: have you attempted to
update the USB drivers using the driver ddisc supplied with the PCI card?

Alternative:
You may wish to go to device manager and remove all your USB devices: then
shut down the PC, remove the PCI card and reboot to BIOS.

Make sure in BIOS that the on board USB devices are enabled.

Then see if XP detects and installs the 'new' on board devices correctly.
Fix any problems here before going ahead with the USB card.

Once the on board USB prots work properly, then install the PCI card.

Hi, Fred.

I had a similar problem after reinstalling WinXP recently. My computer now
has 12 USB ports, all 2.0, as a legacy of prior upgrades, including an
add-in card and a new mobo. When I plugged my new MuVo music player into
one of the two USB ports on the front of my computer, I got the message you
describe: something about a USB 2.0 device plugged into a USB 1.1 port.
After some head-scratching, I went to Device Manager. In addition to my USB
ports listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers, there was an additional
USB higher in the list (I've forgotten what it was called) with a yellow
flag beside it. I deleted that listing and my error message disappeared.

I can't give you the technical explanation, but this worked for me. Might
be worth another look in Device Manager.
