usb 2.0 pci card

I have a notebook with windows XP (both SP1 and SP2 updated). I have
purchased 2 USB 2.0 PCI cards and am having trouble operating usb 2.0 devices
with them. When I originally installed the cards the drivers were
automatically installed, including "usb 2.0 root hub device" and "standard
enhanced PCI to USB host controller". I'm not sure when it happened, but the
'usb 2.0 root hub device' is gone now. I've tried unistalling the drivers
and reinstalling them but the 'usb 2.0 root hub device' never installed
again. I contacted their help (Belkin) and they couldn't solve the problem.
Thats whey i bought a second card and had the same result. I am a novice
with the computer so i apologize if i'm missing something obvious, but could
someone offer advice (i am slow so the simpler the better!)
Thanks

If Belkin can't help you, ask them to take back their faulty units and get
some from another manufacturer.

Things shouldn't play around like ghosts in the night.

It goes like this, plug in new device + load driver = it works.

If not working scream like mad and ask for refund! No mucking around.

If we users demand quality, eventually it will be provided.

I am getting a refund for the belkin, but I am still discouraged after
purchasing another card from a different company and the same result. Any
other suggestions to try? Thanks

Hi Alan,
Did your notebook come with USB 1 ports? If so you will probably need to
disable anything to do with the USB 1 ports listed in your BIOS.

Yes it did come with two usb 1 ports, how would I do that? Thanks for the
help, sorry for needing to be walked threw it. I uninstalled all usb drivers
and reinstalled them but that didn't work. How would i disable them in my
BIOS?

If you bought your computer new it should have come with various written
information including information about your BIOS. Different computers have
different BIOS makeup's. Not knowing you particular computer I would not be
able to tell you exactly what items in the BIOS to disable, but if you go
into the BIOS you should be able to pick out the parts that refer to your
onboard USB ports. Most computers allow you to get into the BIOS by holding
down the delete key when you boot the computer. Once your in the BIOS you
will usually find information at the bottom of the page explaining how to
find your way around and how to enable or disable various items. Go into the
BIOS and take a look around. Good Luck.
