URL slow to open when clicked in message (OL 2007)

I have two machines with Outlook 2007 on them, both with Firefox set as
the default browser.

On one machine, clicking a link in an email message opens the URL in a
Firefox tab very quickly (pretty much instantly).

On the other machine, the Outlook message window will show that
scrolling/animated gradient while it "thinks" for a period of time
before it sends the URL on to the browser. This is always at least 4-5
seconds and sometimes as much as 25-30 seconds.

I've poked around a bit to see what the differences might be... both
machines are the same in terms of hardware and the OS. Both have the
same version of Firefox and installed extensions. The only difference
in their Outlook configurations is that one machine (the slow one) is
pointed at an Exchange server while the other (the faster) is fetching
from a couple of POP accounts.

But it's not the fetching of email that's the issue... it's simply that
I get a lot of messages with links I need to go to and one machine is
horribly slow.

Any ideas on what might be causing that slowdown? Configuration items I
might check?

Thanks,

jdonnici,

I'd like to have an answer to this also, but for me the problem is hit and
miss. Sometimes the url will open up right away and other times it'll take
20-30 seconds or so.

I suspect it is an issue with the engine Outlook uses to retrieve the URL, I
*do not think* Outlook initially uses the Firefox engine but initially uses
the Internet Explorer engine. Then once the OS realizes the default is
Firefox it'll hand it off. Maybe that's the issue, somehow the engine
Outlook uses needs to be changed somehow but that is a mystery to me.

I'm not so sure that it's because Firefox is the default browser... on
the machine where there's a lag, the lag occurs even when I switch my
default browser to IE7. On the machine where there is NO lag, there's
no lag even when Firefox is being used (my typical default).

I don't know if there's a security thing, if it's something in my
Outlook settings, or what... very frustrating though.

thanks,

Does anyone has already found a solution for this problem? I'm experiencing
exactly the same: one day, the links open immediately, the other day, it
takes about one to three minutes ... I have tried IE and Firefox as default
browsers, but no difference here.
I did notice that the problem only occurs when I've opened Outlook 2007 for
the first time after booting my PC ...
