the default regular expression for url validation in VS 2005 does not
support port numbers

http(s)?://([\w-]+\.)+[\w-]+(/[\w- ./?%&=]*)?

http://mywebsite.com:8080/something.aspx

will not work

How do I add that?

You'll want to download Expresso from
http://www.ultrapico.com/Expresso.htm to help you debug your regex if
you are going to be doing a lot of this kind of thing. It is pretty
powerful and complete -- and free.

Here's one way to accomplish what you are trying to do:
http(s)?://([\w-]+\.)+[\w-]+(/[\w- ./?%&=]*)?(?<port>:\d+)?
