First: Turn your machine off at once.

Here is a utility that I've seen touted often enough on Usenet...though have
not personally tried it myself...
but they have a free trial.

Again...NOTE: The best thing to do if you've lost data is to TURN YOUR
MACINE OFF AT ONCE!!!!

The more you use your machine, the greater the chance that your lost data
will be over-written.

Even the act of installing data rcovery software could over-write your
data...
so it would be best to install the software on another machine...then remove
the HD from the "machine to be recovered"...
and temporarily slave it to the "recovery" machine

Shut down your computer. All the time Windows is running it is updating
things on the hard drive. Every time it writes to the hard drive there is
less chance of recovering anything. Recovering anything at this point will
not be easy. If the data is very important to you consider letting a
professional do it.

If the OS has been re-loaded there is *NO* way you will be able to recover
them yourself.

In theory, they could be retrieved...but it would take *very expensive* lab
work!

I have managed to recover 80% of the information using drive D as my
recovery option. As I only backup to this drive it was the best choice. I
used a program called file scavenger, while only a demo, I managed to
recover the important imformation that I needed and as for the rest I can
recreate them when needed.

As with any file system it is not always secure, Fat definately was not and
NTFS is not but it does take time to locate information. Another reason not
to store private information on you computer. If you do make sure it is
unrecoverable.
