im running a compaq nx9000 laptop with XP pro. all was
working fine until yesterday....when i try to boot it
freezes when loading up - it never makes it into windows.
the same happens when i try to load the last known good
config. when booting in safe mode, i can see the last
driver it loads before freezing is "atisgkaf.sys" so i
assume that this is the cause of the problem. i have
tried fixing the mbr, and also reloaded ntldr and ntdetect

please help....any suggestions?? has anybody seen this
before???

Have you tried VGA mode?

i don't have a suggestion unfortunately but just wanted to say that I
too have a compaq nx9000 with xp pro and about 3 days ago it started
spontaneously locking up during operation, about 5 times so far, at
random times. no warnings, no error messages, no blue screens of
death. the keyboard freezes, the pointer freezes, the entire computer
seems to freeze aside from the screen maintaining the last image
painted.

to recover i have to hold the power button down for 6 seconds and then
reboot. the reboot is clean every time fortunately but when i check
the event viewer there is nothing there.

anyone know what might be going on here? please copy replies to
(e-mail address removed)

thanks,
michael.
