URGENT: New build problems

Hi All,
I need help quickly. Ive just put together a new PC, spec as follows:
- PC Chips M848ALU
- AMD 2500 XP+ Barton
- 512MB Twinmos DDR 2700 RAM
- 60GB Excelstor 7200RPM hard drive
- Radeon 9200 64MB
- Sony DVD drive
- 400 Watt power supply etc

When ive come to install windows, I put the XP cd in the DVD drive, and let
the auto setup thing start to run. It goes to the blue screen where it says
"Press F6 to install a 3rd part RAID driver" and that stuff. Then it gets to
"Installing Windows Executive (copying files)" and appears to freeze. The CD
is still whizzing round, but nothing much happens. Then about 5 or 6 random
characters appear, dotted about the screen. Then the system emits a long
beep from its speaker, and thats how it stays.

Any ideas whats wrong?

I am not familiar with your board, but have you gone through the BIOS
settings before attempting to install the OS? If the board does support
RAID, make sure you have it set the BIOS to how you have your system
physically configured. If using a single hard drive, make sure the drives
jumper is set correctly. That's all I can come up with for now. Hope it
works.

I'd be very speptical of trying to install files from the ' fuss budget ' XP
CD from a DVD player.
Get a 32X or better CD-ROM.

Strangely, the problemts went away when I swapped the TwinMos RAM for my
Crucial stuff. I thought TwinMos was supposed to be a decent brand?

PC Chips is the most horrid board on the market today.

Really. What do you base this on?
OK they are a cheap OEM board and they did have a scam with a false
chip years ago but I know loads of OEM builds that have never had a
problem with their systems :)
I've had to return as many expensive boards as cheap OEM boards."Luck
of the draw"if there's a bad batch IME with any mother board maker :/

agreed, basically its a crap shoot no matter the hardware type, PSU's to PCI add on cards to highend video.High-priced to the
cheapos. They are all subject to lemons. A 15 dollar cmedia sound card made by GOKW, with a good QC manager, could(has) out lasted
numerous SB, Yamaha, turtle beach and the 6.1 was excellent. all channels with their own ports,no fancy patch cords to make, etc etc
etc...... anyway I jumped in after a thread of 'buy the most expensive and your assured of good quality and longevity' phrases.

QC in PC gear leaves a lot to be desired IMHO :/
