When I turn on my Dell Inspiron 630m an error message displays:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent any
damage to your computer."
Technical Information:
STOP: 0x00000024

After a phone call with Dell Customer Services they gathered that it is a
software issue and have sent out a few discs including "Reinstallation CD -
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2" and "For Reinstalling Dell
Inspiron and XPS System Software"

When I insert these discs nothing happens and I am stuck with this error
message everytime I restart the machine.

If anyone could post some useful information regarding my problem it would
be greaty appreciated.

Hi Andrew,

On another machine, download and create the appropriate WinXP boot disk set
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994). Then boot the system with them,
log into the installation with the admin password. Then run "chkdsk c: /r"
from the prompt. If prompted for the location of autochk.exe, indicate
C:\Windows\system32.

Set your machine to boot from the optical drive, then restart with the1st
recovery CD in the drive [you may have to press a specific key to invoke the
recovery process].

You should find all this info in the literature you recieved from DELL, do
backup any important data before restoring your machine.
