Hi all, :)
Unfortunately under XP and NTFS, undelete tools are not so effective as
used to be under 98 and FAT32.
But give them a try (the last one is only for cameras):

I used this one last week for somebody who had done a complete install of
Windows XP instead of a repair install. On an 80 gig NTFS drive, after 24
hours, it had only done 30%. Slow as molasses it was. PC Inspector did
however get back many of the pictures the owner was sure she had lost. I'll
give it 2 thumbs up for recovery, but 1 for speed.

thanks everyone.

tim, that is similiar to my situation, i took my 300G and unhooked it
from the MoBo and installed it in an external usb case and windows xp
only saw it at 32G FAT32 after that. :-(

Do you prefer speed and no recovery to slow and full recovery?

For free, I'll take whatever I can get :)
However, I have used tools in the past, and couldn't remember the names,
that did much the same only faster. NTFS is the reason for the hit in
speed as a warning box pops up telling me that it will only run in
"intensive mode" (my quotes). Using a FAT32 drive, this tool may only take
minutes.
But again, as I said in my prior post, despite the speed it's a great tool.
