*URGENT* Corrupt Excel File. Can I Recover?!

A workbook was saved this morning, and it produced an "Out of Memory
error and crashed. Upon reopening the work book gives the message
"Unable to Open File". Can i save this file? Please respond ASAP as
am at work and need to access it! Thanks in advance!

Where is file located? HD or floppy -- if floopy most likely you are OOL Had
this file been saved before?


If HD, Reboot, Empty the Temp Internet files, Find the Temp Directories --
C:\windows\Temp and C:\documents & Settings\<user name>\local settings\temp
Delete all files in there
Reboot

Open Excel, try to open file.

What version Excel are you using?

Are you trying to open the file through Windows Explorer or are yo
using *FILE --> OPEN* in Excel? Try both methods.

Have you tried opening the workbook using another application such a
Word?

You can also try opening a New Workbook and linking it's cells to th
damaged Excel file.

If none of these things work you can try one of several applications t
try to open the corrupt file

I have successfully recovered a corrupt Excel file by opening it i
OpenOffice. I guess it overlooks errors in a file that Excel refuses t
open with the error.
