Upnp confusion

OK, I'm confused ....

Both ends are sitting behind NAT routers in different countries and neither
support Upnp (at least one of the routers is too old for this, the other is
a Netopia SDSL router)

So how come I have managed to have a voice and video conversation?

Greetings Michael,

It's possible that both sides have built-in voice/video support in the router (which really
just translates the IPs necessary and may open/forward the required ports) without UPnP. As
well, is MSN Messenger 6 being used?

MSN Messenger 6 is being used at one end only.

Don't all routers that support NAT do the port forwarding ?
