Upload pix to MSN web page

About two weeks ago, my MSN web site began going into "not responding" mode
every time I tried to upload pictures to the site. Perhaps coincidentally,
Windows had very recently uploaded a set of automatic updates (I don't know
which ones).

MacAfee claims the computer is virus free. AdAware claims the computer is
spyware/Adware free.

How do I fix this problem so I can maintain the web site?

Are you talking about your page at http://groups.msn.com or
http://spaces.msn.com ?
Both use an ActiveX control with IE called the "MSN Upload Control" or the
"MSN Photo Upload Tool". That may have been damaged. Try
uninstalling/reinstalling it:

In IE, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. On the General tab, find
the Temporary Internet Files section. Click Settings, and then click View
Objects. In the Downloaded Program Files section, right-click MSN Photo
Upload Tool, and then click Remove. Then go back and try and upload a
photo - you should be offered to reinstall the ActiveX control.

If no joy, go to the "Help" link, bottom right (or top right) of the site in
question - it will open a Help pane to the right of your IE window, then
click on the appropriate link for more troubleshooting on photo upload
problems.

Jon--thanks. I'm using groups.msn.com for my site. I tried both of your
suggestions and neither worked. When go to the Picture section and click on
"Add Pictures," the "computer is busy" icon appears and never goes away.
When I access Windows Task Manager, it shows the program as "Not responding."

Perhaps the problem is not the uploading function but something more basic,
whatever that might be.

If you've uninstalled/reinstalled the ActiveX control and things are not
working.....
Check your IE security settings and make sure their set to Medium -
Tools...Internet Options, Security tab - Internet Zone. Also, if you are
running a firewall like ZoneAlarm or Norton - try disabling that to see if
it's blocking the upload.
What program is reported as not responding in Task Manager?

Jon--thanks for all your help. The only firewall I have is the Windows XP
firewall.
Security is set to medium.

I've tried all of your suggestions, as well as all of the suggestions from
the MS help desk. None solved the problem.

Most importantly, the problem started within a day of an automatic update of
Windows. Yesterday, there was another auto update of Windows. As soon as I
installed the update, I tried to upload pictures to the web site. The
pictures uploaded just as they used to before the month-ago Windows update.
Coincidence? Explanation? Who knows? Nonetheless, the problem has gone
away.

Thanks for the feedback, Stan. It would sound like your problem was related
to the recent security update that's causing lots of other problems for a
ton of users.....

Guess we'll have to add the MS Photo Upload tool to the list....
