Since installing Mcafee Virusscan 8 (Windows XP SP2), whenever I shut down I
have received warning messages (showing up in my event log), Event ID 1517,
saying "Windows saved user DBOLOTIN\David Bolotin registry while an
application or service was still using the registry during log off. The
memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be
unloaded when it is no longer in use." Although this situation doesn't seem
to have been associated with any harmful symptoms, I wanted to get rid of the
warning messages. And I learned somehow that the Microsoft program UPHClean
can eliminate these warning messages by releasing the offending "handles" in
my "user profile hive." But this program still has to do its work every time
I shut down. Could constantly running this program be a source of any future
problems? Is there any way to fix up the registry, so that I can shut down
without warning messages in my event log and without constantly running this
UPHClean program? For what it's worth the offending "handles" are SVCHost
and HKCU.
it uses a meg of memory. i noticed that after service pack two, either
slipstream new install or when i tested on a patched system, it would cause
norton's antivirus to give a userenv error. urks, me that these companies
cannot get there ass in gear and become compliant to prevent any issues.
I tried using this because my PC refuses to shutdown but only when it's in
safe mode, which is kind of weird. Nothing running - I checked. It didn't
help, so I suppose it's not the tweak I need? (No malware present)
