UPHclean.exe disappears

We've had this issue on random workstations throughout our organization. User
Profile Hive Cleanup is installed on all workstations.

We'll get a call from a user complaining of slowness on their machine. Event
Viewer lists an error that the service (User Profile Hive...) failed to start
due to a missing .dll. The program is listed as installed under Add/Remove
Programs. The folder UPHclean exists in the Program Files folder, yet the
folder only contains the readme.txt file, the .exe is missing.

The missing file is not found in the recycle bin. We use AVG antivirus and
there are no reports that AVG found threats and deleted the file. Users that
might have some sort of malware removal progams show nothing in their logs
about finding and deleting the file. It's just gone for no apparent reason.

Any suggestions on where to look for why this is occurring would be most
welcome.

When I installed, it was the exact same version I installed a few months
ago.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Like Tom Willett posted below,
there is no difference between the version dated 3/8/07 and the version
currently installed on our workstations. Also the question was not how to get
it back, but why is it disappearing in the first place?
