hi,
my cousin has bought a computer with XP professional installed but has no
disc, he has encountered problems with genuine advantage & wants to install a
genuine copy of the OS.
I suggested that Microsoft might be able to help get over this problem so
does anyone know whether the company offers free or reasonably priced
solutions to this problem?
If not, will he be able to do this by buying the XP Pro upgrade or will he
have to buy the full version?
thanks
Colin

To install the upgrade version requires proof that you have a version
of Windows that qualifies to be upgraded.

If the installed version is legit, you should be able to upgrade it,
but if for some reason the upgrade doesn't recognise it, or something
goes wrong during the process, you'll have to have the qualifying CD in
order to perform a clean installation using the upgrade version.

If you have the full version, you could perform a repair installation
with it and enter its Product Key during the process.
