Hi,

I understand that while upgrading the Windows 95 to Windows 2000 the system
displays error message.

Please note that Windows 95 can be upgraded to only Windows 2000
professional. Also make sure that the hardware is compatible with Windows
2000. Please update the system with the latest BIOS if available for the
system.

The most common reason for the error message is hardware incompatibility.
Please let us know whether the status code is (0x4,0,0,0) or (0x4,0x1,0,0).

Check if these articles help you in resolving your issue:

Picking up this thread, can I safely go from Win 98SE to Win 2000. If
so, where do I find a step by step proceedure for formatting the HDD and
installing Win2K from a CD?
Further more, can I go back to 98 if not pleased w/2K?
Thanx.

Hi,

I understand that you want to know whether it is possible upgrade from
Windows 98 Second Edition to Windows 2000. You are looking for information
on how to install Windows 2000.

Please note that it is not possible to roll back to Windows 98 once you
upgrade the operating system to Windows 2000. Back up all the data before
you proceed with installation or upgrading.

Please find the information on how to install the Windows 2000 operating
system.
