Hello!

I have a laptop with Windows XP Home installed. I also have many programs
installed. Since XP Home lacks many things I want to upgrade to XP Pro.

My problem is that XP Home is English and XP Pro is Swedish. I get a
message saying that upgrading isn't possible because of the differences in
language.

Since I a bit unsure on how to get the laptop working again if I scratch
everything, with drivers and such (I have an Acer TravelMate 2303). I
wonder:

Is there someway of installing XP Pro without losing all drivers, programs,
etc?

Hi Anders,

Unfortunately, no. The upgrade must be done with the same language and
service pack level as the existing installation. You cannot use different
language versions of WinXP in this fashion.

Let me add that if you do a clean install with the upgrade package, you may
end up getting the same message from many of your programs about how the
language doesn't match.

Your best bet might be to do a dual boot with the different versions and see
if Pro in Swedish will do what you want before you end up in worse shape
than you are now.

You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS
to another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of
WinXP (in whatever language you want) to perform a clean installation.

You can do a clean install with an upgrade CD as long as you have the CD for
the version from which you are upgrading.

That's a curious exception, but thanks for the information.
