Once I upgrade from 98se to XP is it easy to delete ALL of the 98se?
I want to know how clean an upgrade really is? I don't want a system that
has folders full of garbage and I want to be able to delete the old OS.
Thanks.

When you do an upgrade and ask for the previous system files to be
backed up (a sensible precaution) this is done into one big compressed
file, which is easily removed after (if you go to Add Remove Programs
and set out on Uninstall Windows you are given the option to do so). XP
is so different that there is nothing to speak of left - maybe a driver
for legacy hardware; maybe some DOS Command files in Windows Command,
but that is all.

Only garbage would be stuff that has sat around being garbage anyway -
from old programs that have been badly uninstalled. Whether that
matters more than retaining the stuff you use is up to you. I'd do an
upgrade in the first instance - if you then feel a need for a totally
clean install, it is still possible. See Gary Woodruff's article on
upgrading to XP at http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpupgrad.htm
