Hi again
I am running windows XP Home, and I want to put windows 2003 server on however, when I put in the CD and hit install a message comes up and says "Windows does not support upgrading from windows XP Home to Windows 2003 server enterprise edition". It then allows you to go through the process. I f I went through the process would it ruin my computer?

Create unallocated space, boot from the Server 2K3 cd, and install it as a
dual boot system. Make sure that you select the correct partition to
install to, during the installation!

Greetings --

It's not technically possible to perform an upgrade from a
workstation OS to a server OS. You should format the hard drive and
perform a clean installation, unless you want to create a dual-boot
configuration.

Huh?

You can't "upgrade" XP Home to Server 2003. I doubt this would even
work with XP Pro. XP is a client program; Win Server 2003 is a Server
OS. It's like trying to upgrade your motorcycle by putting a diesel
truck engine into it; it won't work.

To get Server 2003 on the box, you need to do a clean install.

Do you really need a Server OS? Most home users don't.

Great question! You just saved me from all kinds of problems. This is a
great web site for info. I was getting ready to do this same thing. I
am now going to save the cost of just wasting the purchase of the 2003
server software and buy it preinstalled on a new server from Gateway.

Hello all, this is my first post here.

I was googleing a similar topic and found this one.
My question is can you install 2003 enterprise on F: when you have
xp/sp1 on C:. If not is the process for setting up a dual boot tricky
or is it easy, I would probably need detailed (noob) instructions on
doing either, and would i be able to access files from one to the other
depending on which o/s i'm in at that time.
To answer the question of why? I'm just a tinkerer and my wife works at
HP and she can call the help desk and get any microsoft product, so i
asked her a while back to get it and i forgot all about it.

Just something new to learn

Thanks
