Upgrading from Win98 to Win xp pro

W

WAR

Removed win 98 from computer and installed win xp pro.
But all the programs I had been using with 98 have become
buried in the computer and sometimes will not work with
xp. Also, I cannot get Microsoft Word to work which
worked fine with Win 98. All I get is Word Pad which is
not very good at all. Wondering if all programs
associated with Win 98 needed to be removed when OS was
removed? Do I need to re-install Win98, remove all
programs and OS and then install XP?

What did you do to uninstall 98? Are first blush, it appears you did a
clean install of XP and then reinstalled your applications. However, the
rest of your post implies you somehow expected your applications to be there
after removing 98 which most would assume means you formatted your hard
drive and installed XP clean. So, what exactly did you do, what versions of
the applications do you have and did you reinstall them on XP?

If you didn't reinstall them and there was no operating system on the
computer before installing XP, there were no applications either.

Try installing the applications again (eg. word).
Make sure that this applications are supported on XP.
