Upgrading from Promise TX2000 to Rocketraid 454? Bad idea?

Hi. Unfortunately a company pulled a fast one on me and shipped me the
wrong card (I wanted the TX4000) to add two more ide ports to my raid
setup. My initial plan was to return it (major pain) and get my money
back and actually find a place that will sell me a new TX4000 but as I
sit here thinking I wonder if I could use this card with my existing
stripe that was done on the Promise bios. I have a tendency to think
this will NOT work and will likely destroy my existing Promise mirrors
as I presume the Promise bios utility is what creates the raid set. I
am also ASSUMING that its a proprietary striping that the Rocketraid
454 will not like and as such will not work off the bat (or ever
without wiping the drives?)

So the question is- has anyone moved a raid set over to a different
brand of controller successfully? Was there some irritating work that
had to be done like remove the stripe and re-stripe the drives using
the rocketraid bios (or other)? (Can you even remove stripes with the
Promise bios?)..I'd really like to get this 4 channel card into my
system to add more storage but am very sketchy about a) losing my data
entirely and b) having a nightmare of a time doing a conversion. And I
suppose finally i'm not too comfortable with this card. I've never
even heard of it. I usually use 3ware or Promise for my raid setups.

Thanks for all tips!

Go ahead and do it. If it doesn't work, restore data from your trusty
backup.

Thats the problem. Its about 600gb of backups and I have no device,
nor can I afford to back all that up.

Apparently he can since he is considering a "Blue Light" SATA compromise
instead of a bulletproof SCSI solution.
