Upgrading from 2G to 4G on Vista HP = Crashed = Help

I did some interesting readings here before posting my question and learned
about issues and facts, something I use to do a while ago...! I wanted to
increase my actual memory of 2G to 4G running Vista HP 32 bits (aware of some
issues or limitations and why). I got the exact same Dimms Kingston KVR 2G
667 (DC Kit) and installed it. At first I crashed because I had forgotten to
reset virtual memory to auto mode (allow windows to decide). So, I removed
the extra 2Gb, corrected that issue, and all goes. However, I encountered
other problems; Trend Micro Internet security 2008 crashed while scanning, I
removed it, still now, Windows defender crashed, my backup sotware also
crashed, in others words the system became unstable or unreliable. I have
tried various things, still unstable and crashes. I removed the extra 2G of
memory, deleted and reinstalled Trend Micro, reconfigured my backup sotware,
etc..., and all is fine now. The memory Dimms were exactly the same (Asus
P5B-E, E6600 dual Core, 2G DDR2 DC 667MHz or PC-5300).

Any explanations as to why this is happening (I think it's because of lack
of sufficient adressing (mapping) available for some software, the space
being all taken if I may say so or any special parameters I'm not aware of or
simply normal (limitations)?

Did you try just the two gb of new memory? Bad memory does happen.

RAM manufacturers these days buy the modules from the cheapest source. You
think you are getting the EXACT same type of RAM, but you are not.

Add 1 stick of the NEW RAM at a time.
Also, 32bit does not use 4 gig of RAM; only a bit over 3.

I did switch the dimms (4 slots) always keeping the first 2 Gb (2 x 1024,
dual channel), all fine, I detected 3 GB (normal). More, I did activate the
memory remapping feature in the bios to see if...; the full 4GB detected (but
obviously unstable!). I did bring it back, i.e. cancelled memory remapping to
detect 3 Gb; therefore, memory dimms appeared all fine; they were detected.
I've also returned them to the store; couldn't get an explanation other than
vista is special (in short)! I wanted to improve the computer speed or access
or processing. - Tks.

I forgot to mention... Perhaps what you say is right, for some reasons even
if the model number or code are the same (label was similar, ID the same
KVR...), it really isn't somehow the same after only one year! I guess I
should remove the 2G I have and install a "new" 4G DC Kit (2 x 2048G) or 2
(new) x 2G DC Kit (4 x 1024G)? Should had it been done from the start as a
general recommendation prior to installating Vista? Your chances of having
the same type (manufacturing batch) would increase...? Or, even if they were
detected, have I just been unlucky here...?

Either you are making a joke or I know you or know me? Alex being my dog
(coincidence)! If not, i'm not familiar with the system here. :)
