I am about to upgrade M/B, RAM, CPU. I have XP Pro. After installing the
new hardware should I load the motherboard drivers first (assuming I can)
and then do a repair reinstall of XP or should I reinstall XP pro first?

I also assume I'll need to reactivate XP. It is an OEM edition purchased
with computer in May 2003. Any problems I should anticipate?

I'm upgrading to Athlon 64 3200.

Thanks guys.

Usually its a repair re-install then SP2 then mobo drivers, graphics,
sound etc.

You will need to re-activate. The WPA wizard will come up with a screen
asking you to phone MS on an 0800 number. Takes about 5 minutes to do
and once you've done it with the new hardware then if you need to re-
install you can do WPA over the net as normal.

Thanks Conor ... seems straightforward...... Presumably nothing will go
wrong ..go wrong ....go wrong ....

Not if you get the anti product activation crack WPA_Kill.exe, for
those of us who cannot stand asking Microsoft for permission to use
our own personal computer (not necessarily you).

Many thanks to the author and his country for allowing those of us
in the United States to re-import a little freedom during the unseen
war.

If you change the motherboard in a system that had Windows installed, then
you MUST reformat the harddrive and do a fresh install of the OS. Otherwise
you can look forward to ongoing Registry errors and data corruption. After
installing Windows, install the motherboard drivers.

It's a great little piece of software, isn't it? If only Microsoft
could write code that worked so well.
