Upgrade: NT to 2000 - Never Completes

I am Upgrading a Gateway Laptop, Solo
9150, Bios v.12, and the install never
finishes. Same hold true with XP. At
some point in the upgrade the screen
goes blank and nothing more happens.
Any help is appreciated.
