Upgrade ME to XP Professional

Recently purchased the XP Pro software from a computer
store. Was attempting to help a friend upgrade from ME to
XP Pro. When we check compatibility area we get the
message that we can't upgrade from ME to XP Pro. Is that
correct?

Any suggestions? Please advise. Thanks!

No, it is not correct. ME qualifies for the Upgrade price of XP. The retail
package of XP - Full or Upgrade CD - would work. It sounds like you have
purchased an OEM copy. These are designed to install on a clean hard drive
only. They cannot - due to the design and intent of this setup routine -
perform an upgrade installation.

No, it's not correct. Either the Full version or the Upgrade
version can do this.

If you are getting this message, almost certainly what you bought
is an OEM version. OEM versions can not do upgrades at all,
whether from Me, or from any other operating system.

I upgraded from ME to XP professsional without any problems. I ran a compatability program provided by microsoft - identified files that needed to be disabled prior to installation. Re-activated some of the programs after installation of XP and worked okay.
