Upgrade from Win XP

I quite liked the idea of Downloading Vista Home Basic upgrade rather than
physically getting a CD ROM (DVD ROM) installation disc out of a shop. (14
hours to download though on DSL apparently!)

I reside in Ireland so I went on Microsoft Ireland website. Which took me to
market place which then took me to Circuit City in the US to download the
Upgrade from Windows XP to Vista basic home edition. 99.00 US Dollars, not
bad at all works out to 76.00 Euro which is good.

but I am just wondering if for one, I am in Ireland and can I purchase from
a US site, and is it safe to do so, and if I get it from the US would it
work OK with the UK/Irish keyboard and settings , language and UK/Irish
spellings and everything in other words would it be only a US version Vista
or would it be an International one?

- I have emailed Circuit City but does anyone know anyway if it would be OK?

Apparently extensive research costing billions was done for Vista and it
features what people want out of an operating system! - the public spoke
and Microsoft listened..... apparently that is!

Don't even spend any money on this upgrade. Stick with what you have.
XP worked great for me, and now I am stuck with using Vista because I
Upgraded, and wish the heck I hadn't.

Andy, at the moment you won't be able to use that online purchasing option.
Once you try to enter your details, the only options for country is United
States. And as you need to input your address to match your credit card
details, you won't be able to proceed.

Andy you should get a DVD. We are seeing quite a few issues with the
downloads. For one thing that process is new and we don't have much info on
how best to install it. Besides without the DVD you don't have access to
the Windows Repair Environment and System Restore that can be found by
booting the DVD. I recommend you get a DVD.

Oh, right so its one of those 'everything is geared for the US type of thing
and sod everyone else!' at the moment is it. Well thanks for the advice
anyway.

I think it is preposterous that you cant just go onto the Microsoft .ie or
..co.uk and just download the upgrade file from there if a person wanted to
and just pay them with your credit card. That cant be too difficult for
them.

..iso file and then burned onto DVD disk using Nero or the likes and upgrade
from that could that be done technically and then get the 25 digit number
through an email. - It being an upgrade and not the full version I thought
that might work well by downloading?

When a child uses Windows Vista for their very -first- computer that child
never experiences driver conflict issues, why.

Oddly, occasionally, when older experienced computer users first begins
using Windows Vista, the second thing that adult does, begins installing all
those old out-dated third party applications, and then complains secondary to
not-compatible driver conflicts, wrongly assigning blame toward Vista instead
of accepting self-responsibility from using ancient third party applications.

Somewhat as the timeless adage, can’t teach an old dog new tricks; some
people are just too stubborn while never learning new ultra high
state-of-the-art computing technology.

Thought for jimBob, Rich, and Andy: Is personal confidential information and
online Security an important issue for you folks? Seriously, today we could
remain using out-houses and mule drawn wagons.

This article says to boot using the Vista upgrade DVD.

I don't know what files it uses to boot.
