upgrade from vista basic to premium?

i have vista home basic - and have discovered that dvds i burn can't be
played on dvd players. i understand that vista home pemium lets you do this
with windows dvd maker. is it possible to upgrade the basic to premium - and
if so how do you do this?

I don't know what shipped with your version but I use both Roxio and Nero to
burn DVDs with no problem.

Could be a hardware issue, not a software issue. Did you upgrade your PC
from XP, or whatever, to Vista? If yes, were you able to burn DVD's and play
them on DVD players before? If yes, have you changed your DVD burner drive?
If no, then probably software problem... Have you tried playing DVD's on
more than one DVD player?
